Doing business in Asia

There’s no doubt Asia is a rapidly growing force in the global economy.

But like any conversation between two different cultures, the language of business and law is spoken differently. That’s why we have a specialist team who are at home with and fully understand the Asian intellectual property, law and business landscape.

This team is headed up by Johnathan Chen and founding partner Ceri Wells.  Johnathan’s our main man on the inside. He’s fluent in Mandarin and  regularly travels in and around Asia. He has worked in Chinese IP law firms, so has many contacts and knows how the system works. Johnathan offers our kiwi team and clients first hand insight into the Asian market, as well as assisting Chinese clients wanting to invest in New Zealand.

Johnathan and Ceri work closely with our commercial team to provide expert advice on the commercial arrangements that come with international distribution. For exporters, we’ve even created dual language contracts and offer a Chinese brand creation service.

Our Asian specialist team can provide the following services:

  • Intellectual property protection specific to the greater China region
  • Intellectual property strategy specific to the greater China region
  • Chinese brand creation / strategy
  • Commercial negotiations, contracts, agreements and strategies
  • Commercialisation of inventions
  • Contacts for supplier / manufacturer
  • Investment / funding contacts
