Peter is a Technical Adviser in James and Wells’ Hamilton Office. Peter has a background in genetics and biotechnology, and specialises in the prosecution of patent applications in the Life Sciences field.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (Hons), University of Otago (1998-2001)
- PhD, University of Auckland (2002-2007)
Peter has a wide scientific background stemming from his undergraduate degree in Genetics/Plant Biotechnology, followed by his PhD in Protein Structure/Function and Drug Development. A breakthrough in his award-winning PhD research has paved a route for the development of a new diabetes drug. Peter’s recent post-doctoral research has focused on developing new therapeutics for cataracts utilizing the detailed structural knowledge of a critical protein implicated in the disease.
Peter joined James & Wells in 2008 as part of our Life Sciences team and is currently studying towards registration as a patent attorney. His wide background in genetics, plant biotechnology, molecular biology, and protein structure and function provides a strong technical and theoretical understanding necessary for the effective protection of complex scientific inventions.
Peter is a student member of the New Zealand Institute of Patent Attorneys.
