Based in our Christchurch office, Rachel is a senior solicitor in our Trade Mark Team. Rachel has a broad range of experience in intellectual property, media and commercial law, having practiced in both New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

  • Postgraduate Diploma in United States and European Copyright and Related Rights, King’s College London (2004)
  • Barrister & Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand

Rachel specialises in trade mark, copyright and design issues, passing off, the Fair Trading Act, and IP issues arising in an online environment (such as domain name disputes and copyright infringement on the internet). She has worked as a solicitor both in-house and in private practice, and also in the public sector at the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand (IPONZ) as a Designs Examiner and leading the Trade Marks examination team as Assistant Commissioner of Trade Marks.

Rachel is a contributing author to Brookers' Intellectual Property Online and is particularly responsible for updating the sections on copyright law and trade mark oppositions. She has also been a speaker at national and international conferences on the subject of intellectual property law.

Rachel is a member of the New Zealand Law Society and is a New Zealand Committee Representative for the Intellectual Property Society of New Zealand and Australia. Rachel is also a student member of the New Zealand Institute of Patent Attorneys.
