Jonathan is a Senior Associate based in our Auckland office,
specialising in patents, designs and related intellectual property.
Jonathan's intellectual property experience covers a wide range of
technologies, with particular expertise in electronic engineering,
telecommunications and software.

Jonathan joined James & Wells in 2010 having previous
experience as a patent attorney for firms in New Zealand and the
UK. He has also gained business experience as a management
consultant in the UK where he worked on a number of large
implementation projects for multi-national technology
companies.
Jonathan's practice is primarily in the field of patents,
drafting patent specifications and prosecuting patent applications
from examination through to grant for both local and international
clients. He also provides advice on infringement and validity, and
handles oppositions.
Specialising in electronics and mechanical technologies,
Jonathan has experience prosecuting patent applications for
STMicroelectronics, Nokia and other multi-national
telecommunications companies. He also has experience in a wide
range of areas, including chemical, biotech and medical
technologies. In the last few years, Jonathan has worked with an
increasing number of clients in the cleantech sector on a range of
technologies including hybrid vehicle power supply, solar heat
collectors and packaging.
Jonathan is a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Patent
Attorneys (NZIPA).
